SUMMER is well and truly here and Greek artist Argy brings some Balearic light for us with a fantastic playlist.
The prolific DJ and producer has just dropped his third studio album, The Interior Journey on celebrated British dance music imprint Renaissance.
To mark the release of The Interior Journey we invited Argy to talk us through a selection of Balearic inspired music from the likes of Chris Coco, Sven Väth, Bonobo and more. Listen below and read what he had to say about the music.
Algol Paradox – Algol Paradox
Although produced in Greece, this almost esoteric album served as one of my Ibiza lockdown favourite soundtracks.
Delicate, minimalistic and reminiscent of 80s Japanese electronica, this is a timeless body of work by Greek composer Andreas Dimitriadis.
Cantoma – The Mountain (Chris Coco remix)
Cantoma and Chris Coco need no introduction for anyone with the slightest interest in balearic grooves. This one is a beautiful tribal house affair that travels effortlessly from Ibiza to NYC’s Body & Soul.
Argy – Ab Aeterno
I’m particularly proud of this song out of my latest album, ‘The Interior Journey’ (Renaissance Records). This track is my tribute to the Balearic Beat era and particularly to one of its legends, Jose Padilla, who sadly passed away recently.
Sven Väth – L’ Esperanza
Another inspiration behind my latest album ‘The Interior Journey’, this classic from Sven never gets old. Many tried to remix this, but the original is by far still the best.
Fernando – Shining
Zodiac Free Arts Club – Floating World
A smooth Balearic guitar affair, in the middle of a Krautrock album released on German label, Permanent Vacation. It also happens to be my alias, through which I showcase music inspired by Manuel Gottsching, Ryuji Sakamoto, Vangelis and Tangerine Dream.
Bonobo – Brighton Tapes
Argy – Wish you were here (Vocal Mix)
One of my favourite tracks I have ever produced and one that went almost unnoticed back in 2011. A decade later it definitely deserves another chance as it has Ibiza nostalgia written all over it!
Schmoltz – Aurora Australis
This is a very classy, lush and beautifully produced track by Polish producer Schmoltz. I don’t know a lot about this artist, but he seems to do things in his own peculiar way and this track could have been produced either 30 years ago or only yesterday.
Coyote – Too Hard (Aeroplane Remix)
Coyote are another Balearic household name and founders of the label ‘Is It Balearic?’. ‘Too hard’ came with a shimmering piano-dominated remix from Eskimo’s Aeroplane, that evidently stood the test of time!
