NIC FANCIULLI will be social distancing this weekend.
The first socially distant platform dance festival in the UK took place with Patrick Topping taking centre stage at Gosforth race course in Newcastle for a 2,500 capacity event last weekend. The party was deemed a success and provides a glimmer of hope for the future.
This Sunday, Nic Fanciulli picks up the mantle joined by Hot Since 82, bringing his famed Social Festival back to his home town of Maidstone in Kent for a smaller scale and aptly named version, Social Distancing.
While these events are going some way to giving a taste of what ravers are missing in the UK, they will never replace the joy of the large scale mass gatherings we took for granted. Nic told us:
“Lockdown has been a humbling experience for me. I never really appreciated how much I was gonna miss playing until now. I’ve tried to stay as positive as possible but some days you get a bit down, especially when I’ve been doing this for 20 years. I feel for everyone but I know it’s gonna come back at some point and that’s what keeps me positive. Socially distanced events are fun but there will be nothing better than when all of us can safely be together again under one roof with no rules.”
To mark the return of The Social and Nic’s innovative Social Distancing party this Sunday 30th August, we asked the Saved Records boss to talk us through ten current tracks that deserve to be heard on these big sound systems.
Joeski – ‘Sacred Rhythm’ (Extended Mix)
I signed this record to my label the minute he sent it to me. I have been a massive Joeski fan for years and this record is everything a summer in Ibiza should be.
Ralph Session – ‘Discoteca’
This has been my biggest record over the last few weeks of gigs. It just grooves and grooves.
Spencer Parker – ‘Youreoneofakind’
Parker is always on point when it comes to making funky techno and this is no different. Would have been huge this summer if things were normal.
XsXpress – ‘The Attention Deficit Track’
Massive, massive track from Skream and Jackmaster.
Armando v Whitney Houston – ‘I Wanna Dance with Worldbeat’ (Amine Edge Mashup)
Biggest record for the last year. Will hopefully see the light of day soon!
Roberto Surace – ‘Joys’ (Nic Fanciulli Club Re-Edit)
Fun edit I did for Roberto which finally got released on Defected Records this year.
Junior Sanchez – ‘Division’
This just goes off. Junior is still on fire after all these years!
Max Chapman & Kodewerk – ‘Dusk’
Just the perfect record to close the night!
Ario – ‘Bad Face’
I’ve been opening with this record over the last couple of weeks. Bassline on this track is so good!
Fran Ares – ‘La Fortuna’ (Original Mix)
This record is so well produced. It starts off so chilled and laid back, then when the drop comes its slams.
