FAKE News exploded onto the underground dance music scene earlier this summer and have since become one of the hottest properties to emerge this year.
Delivering a heady blend of House and Techno they are on a mission, playing to up for it crowds with the sync button switched off and refusing to sell tickets for the promoter at the same time (most of their mates have settled down and had kids). With a wealth of experience behind them promoting parties and artists, racking up years behind the decks and paying their dues to the industry, why the hell should they?
This weekend will see them line up at Ministry of Sound alongside Fritz Kalkbrenner, Camelphat, Russ Yallop, Rhythm Masters and Rob Cockerton. We caught up with them this week to find out if they are the real deal and they have recorded the next instalment of The Night Bazaar Sessions for you to enjoy right here.
So who are Fake News? Tell us about your sound?
We’re not comfortable telling you that information, anyone could be reading this interview. What we can say is that the Fake News sound is focused on the heavier side of House and Techno but with lots of emotion too. We’ve all been conditioned to accept mediocre tech house as the norm and we’re here to dispel that myth.
You both have quite a history in the scene. How did this project come about?
Our personal records are highly classified but we do have a long history in music, both as DJs and also working behind the scenes. Like one of our heroes, Troy McClure, you may remember our work from lots of different projects (you just won’t know it’s us). After spending this summer at every major dance event in europe, we decided that it was time to start a new project that focused on the core principles of DJing that have unfortunately been lost over time; energy, emotion and brave track selection, coupled with terrible dance moves fueled by patron (other brands are available but we’re open to sponsorship).
You’re appearing at Ministry of Sound this weekend alongside a heavyweight lineup for only your second show. Can you tell us a bit about this party?
All we can say is that it’s featuring some amazing DJs playing brilliant music at one of the best clubs in the world. Anything else is just #fakenews
You are involved with a bunch of other parties. Can you tell us a bit more about them?
We’ve been involved in many amazing events over the years, way too many to list here. But promoting parties is part of our DNA and a huge influence on our current musical quest.
You have recorded the next instalment of The Night Bazaar Sessions for us, what can our readers expect from the mix?
Lots of great records (new and old) programmed properly to make you dance. Exactly what a mix should do… (absolutely no subliminal messages are contained in this mix, honest).
Catch Fake News this Saturday October 7 at Ministry Of Sound alongside Fritz Kalkbrenner, Camelphat, Russ Yallop, Rob Cockerton and Rhythm Masters. For more information head here.
