FUR COAT have come a long way in the last decade.
The brainchild of Sergio Muñoz and Israel Sunshine, two producers from Venezuela, they turned the head of Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus back then and subsequently broke through on to the global house scene with a fresh, groovy, funk infused sound.
They have just dropped new long player Polyphony on the legendary Renaissance label.
Polyphony is the now Barcelona-based duo’s eagerly awaited second album and features them collaborating with several long-standing friends including including Hunter/Game (Italy), Julian Wassermann (Germany), Sly Faux (Australia), Running Pine (Iran) and Delhia (LA). With ‘Polyphony’, Fur Coat wanted to “create a project with many layers that captures the perfect spectrum, ranging from experimental sounds through to more familiar dancefloor tracks.”
We caught up with them this week and asked them to talk us through a playlist of their favourite tracks from their first decade as a duo. The list includes some of their own productions peppered in amongst other music from DJ Koze, Mind Against, Pachanga Boys and more.
Fur Coat – U-Turn (Crosstown Rebels)
“Probably one of our favorites of our catalogue. This one definitely made a staple in the evolution of our sound, rounding out the melodic house and techno sound.”
Herbert – It’s Only (DJ Koze Remix) (Pampa)
“One of our favorites from Koze, what a beautiful remix. Really warm, deep, and with the trademark sound from Pampa Records.”
Pachanga Boys – Time (Hippie Dance)
Mind Against & Somne – Vertere (Life and Death)
“Beautiful synths and quirky textures from this collaboration. Definitely a big track.”
Fur Coat – Ethereal (Systematic Recordings)
“One of our latest and most relevant tracks from 2019. This one worked really well in our sets, as well as having massive support from Kolsch, Mind Against, Adriatique and many more.”
Baikal – Pelican’s Flight (Maeve)
“Great tune, with a lot of groovy tension. When the stabs come in, it makes total impact on the dance floor.”
Yotam Avni – Tikkun (Innervisions)
“Great friend and producer, always delivering with his music. This one was present in our sets for a long time. As the V.A it was included in, it’s a secret weapon.”
Colyn – Khazed Dum (Oddity Records)
“Great upcoming artists, who released this one on our label last year on the series Odd Echoes. Not only did it work really well on our sets, but people really liked it.”
Konstantin Sibold – Mutter (Running Back)
“Great festival anthem, takes us back to DGTL festival in Barcelona 2016. Massive!”
Rod – Brighten Up Bunny (Afterlife)
“Also a festival season highlight from 2019. Such a catchy melody and energetic vibe in this one. Definitely timeless.”
