DUBLIN techno artist Matador returns to his RUKUS label with his new Riches & Sins EP.
The two track release features the vocals talent of Liz Cass on Riches & Sins and Ashley Slater on Live Again.
Out on June 1st, the EP marks another subtle evolution in Matador’s sound from Perc Trax and Cocoon to Minus and RUKUS.
The new music is also reportedly the tip of the iceberg from the Irish maestro who has spent the pandemic busy weaving more irresistible electronic magic in the studio which we can expect to hear later this year. We are in for a treat if this EP is anything to go by.
To highlight the forthcoming release of Riches & Sins we caught up with Matador and asked him to talk us through a selection of current electronic favourites which includes music from Solomun, Richie Hawtin, Patrice Bäumel, Joris Voorn and more.
St Germain – Rose Rouge (Nightmares On Wax ReRub)
“I’ve always been a massive fan of Smokers Delight and anything N.O.W touch, this remix is no exception, one of my all-time favourite summer tracks from back when I was a chef, re-imagined and containing all those classic hooks from the original.”
Solomun – Home (Club Mix)
“Waited a few years for Solomun’s new album and it was worth the wait, this was the first single released a few weeks back and it’s an absolute trip!!!”
Richie Hawtin – Time Stands Still
“Needs no introduction really, stripped back spacey minimal at its finest, Rich’s signature sound is stepped up once again with this intense thought provoking ep, this being my favourite track from it.”
Perry Farrell – Where Have You Been All My Life (Solomun Remix)
“Solomun at it again, this remix is quite the journey, incredible programming and sound-scape brings this all together in true Solomun fashion, lots of unexpected turns and twists.”
Lost Arcade feat. Matt Young – Holding On (Vincenzo Remix)
“Blissful deep melodic techno here, great vocal hook all wrapped up in some wonderful synth work, epic soundtrack for when the sun checks out.”
Far&High – Alone (Original Mix)
“This one’s been around for a while, I only recently re-discovered it when going through an old drive, and what a stomper it is. Rooted in 80s electro, driving bass, big drops and some fantastic synth work brings it right over the top!!”
Aiwaska – Darkness (Patrice Bäumel Remix)
“Patrice in my eye is a modern day Picasso, a true artist with such an indelible original sound, something which aint an easy thing to come by. This remix exemplifies Patrice’s skillset and attention to detail. It’s a breakbeat, it’s trippy, melodic and it’s got all those Baumel touches that make the whole piece sing as one!”
Colyn – Caroussel (Original Mix)
“Another incredible Dutch producer here, relatively new to the scene and clocking up some serious miles already. With releases like this it’s easy to see why Colyn has made such an impact. This track was released a few months back, and it’s a fine example of ‘less is more’. Timeless production that will be around for a long time.”
Alex Kennon – Blinding Lights (Joris Voorn Remix)
WhoMadeWho – Abu Simbel (Extended Mix)
“Probably my favourite track released in the last 6 months, co – produced with Rampa, u can hear that there were a few different minds working on this production, it’s such a quality groove, with a perfect blend of acoustic and electronic instruments, it’s an emotional one this one, and will no doubt be considered a classic as time moves forward.”
Matador – Riches & Sins EP (RUKUS) is out now.
