Andrea Oliva: "Every great set needs a classic in my opinion"

AS one of the main protagonists at ANTS, one of Ibiza’s best and biggest underground parties, Andrea Oliva returns to London next month headlining for the party starters when they land at Printworks for a very special back-to-back set with Italian Ilario Alicante on Saturday, March 12.

The Swiss maestro continues with an ever strong release schedule with EPs across some of the best labels in addition to starting his own Ibiza-focused label All I Need, an imprint designed to become a home for emerging talent alongside his friends.

We caught up with Andrea and asked him to talk us through a selection of essential tracks from his DJ Sets in anticipation of his set at Printworks on March 12th.

Andrea Oliva – Transit (Kevin Saunderson Remix)

Techno wouldn’t exist in this form today, if it wasn’t for Kevin Saunderson and is a huge inspiration of mine. Having him remixing one of my songs fills me with pride. This track is loopy and hypnotic, it takes you on a journey and is perfect towards the end of the night were people can really let go. Kevin added exactly what my original version needed; a touch of Detroit!

SHADED – Midnight Minds Feat. Marina Bjorn (Jamie Jones Remix)

Jamie took a fantastic disco influenced direction on that remix and the great thing about is, that he still managed to get all the sounds on point in order to make it a peak time dance floor banger! I love the driving bassline and the catchy lead synthline on top of a great vocal!

Moojo & Arodes – Reborn (Original Mix)

I am totally into this track, been listening to it nonstop! Such a great song to end a night and send home dreaming about this beautiful vocal, melody and harmony! There is many breakbeat influenced tracks out there right now, but this one is special!

Tiger Stripes – Sneaking Hotdogs Into Peoples Pockets

Funny name for a track I must say, but this is gonna be my secret weapon for this year. Strong beats and very atmospheric melodies, a bit like the good old rave records. I am very much looking forward to return to festivals and big stages in Ibiza, just so I can play those powerful tracks.

Johannes Brecht – Higher Ground (Club Edit)

There are piano tracks and then there are piano anthems, this is a piano anthem! One of my favourite tracks out there right now. Very minimal beat, which is giving all the space and attention to this beautiful piano chords and solos!

Jimi Jules – Burning

My good old friend Jimi Jules smashed it on this song! Great vocals and a great selection of recorded live instruments, which makes this track stand out! Another record I use to end a perfect night! I love those moody melancholic records, they make you think!

DJ Rolando – Knights of the Jaguar

Every great set needs at least a classic in my opinion, this is one of my all-time favourite songs. It’s an iconic one I still use today and it still gives me goosebumps every time I play it! Released in 1999 and still one of the best techno tracks ever made!

DJ Minx – Do It All Night (Honey Dijon Remix)

House at its best! This track has everything a cool house record needs! I play this record almost in every set and its one of those records that works in diverse sets, house, techno and melodic sets. This tracks makes the difference always!

Dole & Kom – Together Onetime (Butch Remix)

My good vibe weapon! If you need a record that saves your life on the dance floor and guarantees you a big hands up moment then this is the one. Funky, disco, house banger with a very big vocal sample, Saint Germain made this vocal sample big with “I want you to get together“. Normally I’m not a big fan of resampling what’s already been sampled by someone else, especially when that track’s a classic but in this case Butch did a masterpiece – so you can’t miss out on that one!
