STEVE AOKI is one of the most successful, cross-genre artists in the world.
Alongside his penchant for throwing cakes, the Grammy nominated music producer, DJ, artist, fashion designer and NFT visionary celebrated 25 years of his groundbreaking Dim Mak label last year.
After a fabulous summer season in Ibiza this year with his HiROQUEST residency at the iconic superclub Amnesia he’s just released his new album HiROQUEST: Genesis.
HiROQUEST: Genesis, features collaborations from Taking Back Sunday, Kane Brown, PnB Rock, Georgia Ku, Bryce Vine, Santa Fe Klan, Lil Xan, Goody Grace, and more.
“The music is a connecting tissue to this universe that I’m creating,” Aoki explains. “This album tells a fantastical story, but it’s also about freedom from restraint. I went right back to my roots—that raw, rock energy and that became the basis of it. From there, I began to explore
everything and it sprouted into so many different genres.”
The songs of HiROQUEST: Genesis comprise five chapters, each detailing a different mythological faction, and the album opens the door for fans to enter a vast world that threads together the music with a new collectible trading card game co-created with MetaZoo Games,
which Aoki co-founded and launched in March of 2021.
We caught up with Steve this week to mark the release of the new long player and asked him to talk us through ten big tracks that have been doing the business for him this summer in his DJ sets.
Steve Aoki – Movie Star featuring MOD SUN & Global Dan
“Movie Star” is a record that you think about when you’re a kid and you’re going through highschool and you’re dealing with all these different kinds of things and having these dreams and aspirations. This is a song that you just want to jam out to all the time.
Steve Aoki & KAAZE – Whole Again featuring John Martin
“Whole Again” to me… is the ultimate EDM Summer anthem. This one brings out all the feels. Went back to early 2010s EDM sound, something I miss so much so I’m happy that we revisited that sound.
Steve Aoki & HRVY – Save Me
This one is like a fine wine – a great melody and a great vocal. HRVY’s voice is just amazing and I made sure the drop was perfect for his vocals. I remember testing it out atT omorrowland Winter and it just went off, so love this one.
Steve Aoki & grandson – KULT featuring Jasiah
I love this one because the drop is fiery and loud. It has EDM elements, but also really strong alternative, kind of punk, roots
in there so you can hear the guitar, you can hear the chugging,…that kind of abrasiveness. This one is all about this unbridled energy!
Steve Aoki & Sante Fe Klan – Ultimate featuring Snow The Product
This ones all about reggaeton and i love it. It really cuts hard in the clubs and Santa Fe Klan and Snow Tha Product just killed it on their verses. It’s just a huge party.
QUIX – Enter With Caution featuring Alix Robson
I love this combination of Drum & Bass with UK pianos from New Zealand DJ/producer QUIX, with an incredible vocal from UK’s Alix Robson.
Slushii, Nitro Fun & Bok Nero – Push It
Slushii is one of the most talented producers I know and this track with long time Dim Mak stablemate Bok Nero, has a great House vibe for anytime of the year.
Aveilla – SOLO
Aveilla has a very unique vocal tone and this is a solid dance/pop crossover record with a dope drop!
David Guetta vs Benny Benassi – Satisfaction
A great update for 2022 – and a track that was rocking in my sets during my residency in Ibiza this summer.
Odd Mob – Left To Right
A big underground track that is sweeping across genres and will be like ACRAZE’s “Do It To It”.
