DAFT Punk collaborator, house and garage music legend Todd Edwards is another artist who found 2020 a very productive year in the studio.
The Grammy award winning producer’s new single The Chant has been turning heads since its release last month with its fierce bassline and insanely hooky chant of the title.
Todd has had a stellar musical career spanning over 25 years. His technique of using a hypnotic collage of cut-up samples over swung beats and lively disco- flavoured baselines helped set him apart from many of his peers and resulted in him being credited as one of the Godfathers of UK Garage. A succession of releases followed over the years cementing the admiration fans and producers alike have for him, each track highlighting his unique production style.
In addition to his own legendary productions, Todd has remixed artists like phoenix, Wiley, Justice, Matthew Dear, Hot Chip, Wilkinson, Klaxons, Jess Glynne & Jax Jones, St. Germain, Mella Dee, MJ Cole, Oliver Heldens and countless others, although he is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Daft Punk on the albums Discovery and Random Access Memories.
Landing on hot new dance music imprint Undisputed Music, The Chant is yet another incredible cut from the legendary producer and is another milestone in Todd’s unparalleled career. The track has already been championed by BBC tastemaker Annie Mac in her Radio 1 show.
We caught up with Todd and asked him to compile and talk us through a list of guaranteed party starters as we look towards regrouping on the dance floor.
Herve & Zebra Katz – Tear The House Up (Jay Robinson Remix)
“This track never fails to get a reaction with that Zebra Katz attitude and when Jay’s bassline kicks in…fire. A few years later Jay and I became good friends. He’s as funny as he is talented.”
Eats Everything Ft. Green Velvet – The Duster
“In my opinion it’s perfection. The flange effects and vocal cut -ups build the anticipation for the beat to finally drop at almost the 2 minute mark.”
Todd Terry – Put Your Hands Together
“I always slip this in during my set. Todd Terry tracks always sound as fresh as the day they were released.”
Le’ Funnk – Hip Hop Punk
“Who doesn’t get hypnotized by a Debby Harry vocal? Recognizable clips from her hit “Rapture” drives this track.”
Bebadim – Best Of This Love
“A simple groove, perfect for throwing an acapella over. I’ve done a special edit with a Diana Ross vocal, and it always grabs attention when I play it.”
Lion Babe Jump Hi (Todd Edwards remix)
“Great songs are so easy to remix, and this is one of them. Not all my remixes are made specifically for the club, but this one was and gets a proper response.”
Green Velvet & Riva Starr – Robots (Weiss Remix)
“You can’t go wrong with a Green Velvet collaboration, and all three names on this one made this track a classic.”
C J Bolland – Sugar Is Sweeter (Armand Van Helden Remix)
“Armand Van Helden helped shape the UK Garage scene with his remix style. I think this is one of his best. I know I’m not alone in that opinion.”
Sandy B – Make The World Go Around (Deep Dish Round The World Mix)
“Another classic that I always turn to because it always sets the mood. Deep Dish’s can do no wrong, and this track has turned heads since 1996.”
Daft Punk – Face To Face
“I always sing this during my set. There are quite a few people that don’t know that I’m the singer on this song…and the co-writer…and co-producer.”
