TERRY FARLEY is one of UK house music’s most enduring artists.
Teasing dance floors since the very beginning of acid house, he’s produced classic music under various guises as well as with Pete Heller as Heller and Farley. Terry is also much lauded for having launched house music fanzine Boys Own with Andrew Weatherall, Cymon Eckel and Steve Mayes back in the day. He will be performing at Summer Love Festival 2021 in Surrey next month on Saturday 4th September alongside fellow pioneers Terry Francis, Eddie Richards, Mr.C, Saytek live and more.
We caught up with him and asked him to talk us through ten key festival anthems. Listen and read what he had to say about the music he selected below.
Ashford and Simpson – Found a Cure (Joey Negro dub/vocal)
“Amazing disco from way back in the day reworked using stems into a sparser killer that touches the younger dancers as much as the older heads.”
Dennis Ferrer – Son of Raw
“lntense organ led New York house banger from about 15 years ago that’s never left my box – has to be played until the end.”
Loleatta Holloway – Runaway
“A Salsoul classic that has that massive festival sing a long potential for the right crowd.”
Fire Island – Grace of God
“A cover version of a Kid Creole produced anthem that pete Heller and myself did back in the 90’s. It’s one everyone knows and the lyrics resonate with what’s going on today.”
Dan Hartman – Vertigo Relight My Fire
“If you’re playing a festival where it’s a bit more random then drop this and see half the crowd go crazy while the other half ask each other ‘Farley’s playing Take That’.”
Nitro Deluxe – This Brutal House
“Early house classic out of Philly with brilliant rave keys and a drop that gets the roars.”
Rockers Revenge – Walking on Sunshine
Xpress 2 – Muzik Xpress
“Sirens, drum rolls, big drops and crowd noises – a real underground anthem that moves everyone.”
Roach Motel – Wild Luv
“Once again it’s about the breakdown – crosses over the house and techno divide very well.”
DJ Sneak – You Can’t Hide From Your Bud
“90’s cut up of the Teddy Pendergrass original – never fails – never.”
