AndThen has come a long way and his music is making an impact on labels such as Circus Recordings, Traded and now we are pleased to welcome him to Cubism.

As a long time admirer of Saytek, Cubism and Lunacy Sound Division we have been receiving demos from Luke Barton for many years and while his talent was obvious from the start it is only in the last few years that the music he is making has matched the kind of vibe we want to put out on Cubism.

In 2021 Saytek and Mark Gwinnett ran a remix competition offering up and coming artists the chance to remix one of Saytek’s tracks. The Teaching Dub EP was the result and alongside Aza.B and DJ Sensible, AndThen delivered an undeniable slice of quality with his remix.

So it is a great pleasure to welcome him to the label with this EP. This new EP from AndThen ticked our boxes when we selected these tracks from an amazing collection of music that he sent us. Luke’s efforts with that list of tunes and his passion and effort has also resulted in many of the other tracks from his growing repertoire finding homes on other labels.

What Watch ticks many of our boxes. The three tracks here straddle emotions and styles that we are all too familiar with but all have AndThen’s signature groove. The EP has received early support from Pac Osuna, DJ Heather, Horse Meat Disco, Marco Faraone, Anthony Pappa, Cevin Fisher, Eric Powell and more.

To celebrate the release we have invited AndThen back to saʊnd club for another Friday night session on The Night Bazaar Mixcloud live streams. He will be joined by Mark Gwinnett on who will provide the first hour of beats followed by a full on two hour set from AndThen which will no doubt include tracks from his awesome EP on Cubism. He told us:

“I’ve been following Cubism since the early days when Tony Thomas was involved and been a fan of the music of Saytek and Lunacy Sound Division for some time. So having my own EP on the label and getting to know Mark and Joseph over the last 2 years has been amazing.

I had the chance to remix Saytek last year which was a dream come true really, and from there my relationship with Cubism as an artist, not just a fan, has developed.

AndThen aka Luke Barton

I also played at saʊnd a couple of months ago for a live stream on The Night Bazaar’s Mixcloud Live series which was a treat where Mark Gwinnett and I also did a b2b towards the end where the music really worked well. I can’t wait to come back to saʊnd for my EP launch on the 20th of May as it is a great place to play. saʊnd is the live streaming Aladdin’s cave of the South East!

I am really proud of this EP and the three tracks really compliment each other. The title track Watch What has a garage influence in it which you can hear through the track but as always has the percussive elements I love to have in my music. Come With Me is the next track which again I am really proud of. This has a driving baseline and a spooky catchy synth which I all played myself. Last but no means least is Together Again which was mostly played in live. I made this track during the second lockdown when I couldn’t wait to get back into a club. This has a tribal house influence.”

The Night Bazaar presents saʊnd LIVE with Cubism & AndThen will be streamed live from www.mixcloud.com/thenightbazaar on Friday 20th May from 8pm.

All the previous sessions are available to listen again right here. Listen to the last time AndThen dropped into saʊnd below.
