GRAMMY award winning producer and DJ Afrojack continues to push music in bold new directions.
His latest single To The Floor is a collaboration with Black V Neck and a remake of hip-hop classic No Hands by Waka Flocka Flame and Roscoe Dash.
The new track is something of a departure from his usual sound leaning to a more underground tech house vibe.
To mark the release of the new single last month, we caught up with Afrojack this week and asked him to talk us through a selection of his favourite dance tracks.
He told us: “To make a selection for The Sun is not an everyday request. I really wanted to give you not the biggest, but my actual favourites from over the years, so here they are in no particular order.”
Listen to his selections and read what he had to say about the music below.
Butch – Testarossa [MDLBEAST Records]
“One of my favorite records to get deep and dirty, the FX on this one are insane and it really has the power to take the dancefloor to a new high.”
Masked Wolf – Astronaut in the Ocean [Elektra Records]
“There aren’t many rap records that instantly go big worldwide, the catchiness in the chorus always gets everyone hyped, I play the acapella a lot in my sets and listen to the original a lot”
Krystal Klear – Neutron Dance [Parlophone]
“For some reason I was late with this record but still its one of those records that once you heard the full record you have to listen to it again”
Swedish House Mafia – Moth To A Flame [Republic]
“Great record, still not what I hope to hear back from them soon (126bpm festival bangers??) but definitely a sign with the interpretation of “Leave the World Behind” in there, and the Jerome Sydenham Remix of ‘Swimming Places,’ so my ears are open.”
Vitalic – You Are My Sun [Citizen Records]
“One of a kind, still haven’t been able to find anything comparable to this, always good to turn to for inspiration.”
Fred again.. feat. The Blessed Madonna – Marea (We’ve Lost Dancing) [again.. Records]
“Very clear message and a song that recaps a difficult time for all of us, I’m sure we will all never forget this song, oh and ofcourse the production on it is amazing”
Rain Radio & DJ Craig Gorman – Talk About [Universal]
“Maybe my favorite record right now, everyone’s jumping on the UK sound hype with the Korg M1 Piano and happy melodies, but this record clearly goes its own direction, really pushing the genre forward and feels like one of the most ‘real’ crossover songs out there.”
Enrico Sangiuliano – Astral Projection [Drumcode]
“One of the best techno productions I’ve ever heard, Enrico’s always on another level with his production but this record really sums it up, one of the most atmospheric tracks I heard over the last years, and the first producers that almost gives me Eric Prydz feels.”
Pryda – Miami to Atlanta [Pryda]
“Maybe not his biggest record, but with so many to choose from this artist, I think this record not everyone knows, and it might contain the biggest EDM knod of all bigroom stages; the ‘Pryda Snare’.”
Faithless – Insomnia [Cheeky Records]
“Always works, always hits, and always delivers the goosebumps. Legendary.”
