Mark Gwinnett (Lunacy Sound Division) releases Altruism remixed by Paul Loraine and DCLVIII OFC

MARK GWINNETT returns on his and Saytek’s Cubism label, under his Lunacy Sound Division alias, with Altruism.

Altruism is a deeper, more atmospheric journey into electronic music for Mark, but retains that LSD signature acid energy. With infectious grooves, nostalgic rave synths, and soaring 90s Detroit inspired chords, the track even cheekily nods to Mark’s new neighbours, who complained twice during its creation as Mark was recovering from serious injuries sustained in an accident back in January.

On remix duty, Rhythm Cult boss Paul Loraine teams up with rising talent DCLVIII OFC. Their rework transforms Altruism into a hypnotic, euphoric journey—melding its rave energy with rich piano melodies, soaring strings, and killer tribal rhythms.

Whether in a pulsating club or on a sun-kissed terrace, this release is built to captivate dance floors with its deep, melodic allure. Boston George – Run

Boston George came to my attention through a mutual friend and as soon as I heard his music became a fan. We were among the first to showcase his music and I then interviewed him for The Night Bazaar and invited him to stream live on our Mixcloud page. From that three track EP, this deep groover remains my favourite and sounds fantastic in the sunshine. He’s since gone on to enjoy great success with his music and it’s great to watch him grow as an artist.

Lunacy Sound Division – Altruism

This is my new track Altruism, under my Lunacy Sound Division production alias and is out now on mine and Saytek’s Cubism label. I produced this while I was recovering from a fractured neck in January, dreaming of the brighter days which have finally arrived. As the sample suggests, it really ‘was hard on the neighbours’ who complained twice during the making of it. I was trying to capture an old skool feel while maintaining my signature acidic LSD sound even though it’s quite a bit deeper than a lot of my other tracks. I’m happy with the results and feedback. Paul Loraine and DCLVIII OFC also nailed the remix which is killer.

Tony Thomas – Fuck You (Nathan Coles & David Coker Remix)

Tony is responsible for pushing me to start Cubism as a co-founder and will forever be my friend and mentor. I was and still am a huge fan of his pioneering work as one of the early purveyors of the tech house sound in the 90s. The track is a real two fingers to any trolls or haters which didn’t go un-noticed by them which we were thrilled about! Having the late and sorely missed Nathan Coles and his production partner David Coker provide this remix is a Cubism highlight. Nathan played for our Cubism parties on numerous occasions and I am lucky to have met him and played alongside the man with the killawatt smile. RIP Nathan x

Subk0de – Next To You (Lunacy Sound Division & FakeNews Remix)

Subk0de is the darker, sleazier production alias of Trevor King (Electronic Youth) and we are lucky enough to be the main outlet for this sound of his as he doesn’t really push the Subk0de alias. I took on the remix one morning after a night out with my friend FakeNews and the result was something slightly different from my usual LSD stuff as I don’t really ever go for full vocals but was super happy with the result. It flew under the radar a bit when it was released this year as I was incapacitated from my accident in January.

Tom Finn – R U Awake (Lunacy Sound Division Remix)

I love Tom Finn. He is one of the most multi-talented people I know and has worked in the music industry in various roles at DJ Mag and Defected before setting up the company Strolll which is now a multi-million pound global business using augmented reality to help people with neurological issues regain mobility. He is a genius. Luckily, he still makes time to create dirty, twisted beats and this one we released on Cubism during lock down and my remix is among my favourite productions I have done in recent times. Tom particularly loves the ‘porno synth’ which is typical Tom. I love it too!

Subk0de – Enough

Another Subk0de weapon. This one hits hard and is a full bodied monster. This is the kind of sound that Trevor does so well. I think making this kind of track must be cathartic for him and I am so glad he allows Cubism to showcase these proper underground tracks as they deserve to be heard on big soundsystems in dark rooms.

Lunacy Sound Division – Rhythm Alien

This track goes way back but I have such a soft spot for it today. I dropped it at every Cubism party we did at fabric and it always goes off and is never far from my reach in my digital crate. Something about the tribal elements I think and something I have not been able to do as well since this one. A firm favourite with a lot of people that follow my music.

Saytek _ Frygian Acid (Live)

Saytek and I run Cubism in partnership and it’s not possible to choose a favourite, although his forthcoming track Parade24 which was recorded live last year at Rave The Planet in Berlin could be a contender but you will have to wait a little longer for that as its not out till May. Frygian Acid is typical Saytek, filthy relentless acidic techno and a good example of what he does best time and time again. He is a machine!

Saytek, Barber – Medicate

A rare collaboration from yesteryear from Saytek and my great friend Neil Barber aka NenaHalena. It’s a pretty unique, cosmic blast and I will never forget walking into Sankeys in Ibiza years ago with Steve Lawler at the controls and this was playing. The dance floor was going berserk and the feeling of pride I had was immense.

Sam Ball – Fall In (Terry Francis Remix)

A bit of a forgotten gem from my friend Sam Ball who sadly doesn’t make music anymore but was the author of an amazing array of tunes for many years when he did. I put some of his music out that was sitting on his hard drive and deserved to be heard and we enlisted our friend, the legend Terry Francis to remix this track Fall In. Terry continues to be a great supporter of Cubism as was his late friend Nathan Coles, appearing together at more than one of our parties. Terry absolutely nailed this remix. I love when the bass line expands the groove over half way through the track after teasing the dance floor for long enough!

DCLVIII OFC’s ‘TBONTB’ has been a staple in my sets since I first heard it. It’s a truly powerful piece of dance music, and I genuinely believe it possesses that rare quality of timelessness. I anticipate it remaining a favourite for many years to come. A real treat for any techno DJ looking for quality.

Orlando Voorn – Between The Surface (Original Mix)

Orlando Voorn’s ‘Between The Surface’ is, in my opinion, a genuine gem. It’s a track that resonates deeply, and seeing the reactions on the dance floor when it’s played is always a pleasure. It’s a testament to Orlando’s skill and musicality.

Francesco Mami, Moody Waters – Idaho (Original Mix)

Francesco Mami and Moody Waters’ ‘Idaho’ has really captured my attention. That groove is just so compelling! It’s a real club-focused track, and I find myself continually drawn back to its infectious energy. I appreciate the way they have crafted this track.

Jim Rivers – Digitalis (Original Mix)

Jim Rivers is an artist I’ve admired for a long time. His sound, particularly in ‘Digitalis’, is so distinctive. For those who appreciate deep, melodic, and slightly twisted music, this track is a must. I’m always impressed by his consistent quality.

Acitone – Emerge (Original Mix)

Acitone’s ‘Emerge’ offers a more nuanced, deeper experience. It’s a beautiful example of deep house, perfect for setting a mood, whether it’s during a warm-up or those late-night hours. It’s a track for those who enjoy a more sophisticated sound.

Mark Jackus – All I Want (Original Mix)

Mark Jackus has a real knack for crafting tracks that work perfectly on the dance floor. ‘All I Want’ has become a regular feature in my deep sets, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. It’s simply a well-produced, quality piece of music.

Dinky – She’s Got Nowhere To Go (dOP Remix)

dOP’s remix of Dinky’s ‘She’s Got Nowhere To Go’ is truly something special. It’s one of those tracks that speaks for itself. I’d encourage anyone to give it a listen and experience its unique energy.

Reboot – Sherbet (Funk D’Void Remix)

Funk D’Void’s remix of Reboot’s ‘Sherbet’ is a masterclass in remixing. I aim to release music that stands the test of time, and this track certainly fits that criteria. It’s an essential addition to any DJ’s collection, in my opinion.

Headbirds – Lucid Dreams

Headbirds’ ‘Lucid Dreams’ is a powerful and atmospheric track. The combination of driving beats, haunting synths, and impactful percussion creates a really compelling listening experience. It’s a track with a lot of depth.

Fiorella – Rebel Echoes (Original Mix)

Fiorella’s ‘Rebel Echoes’ is exactly the kind of track I love to feature in my sets. Its tribal elements are so effective in getting people moving. The positive reactions I’ve witnessed on the dance floor speak volumes. I recommend giving it a listen to experience its unique energy.

Kraftwerk – Radioactivity (2009 Remaster)

Kraftwerk’s pioneering sound in ‘Radioactivity’ is foundational to all electronic music. Their meticulous sound design and repetitive, hypnotic structures are a direct influence on the rhythmic and sonic building blocks of my techno tracks, echoing the industrial heritage of Detroit.

The Ultimate Warlord – The Immortals

This track embodies the raw energy and driving force that resonates with the harder edges of techno. The relentless rhythm and powerful synth lines demonstrate how electronic music can create a sense of urgency and intensity, a feeling I often aim for in my peak-time tracks.

James Holden – Gone Feral

James Holden’s ‘Gone Feral’ is a masterclass in psychedelic and evolving soundscapes within a dance music context. His intricate synth work and unpredictable arrangements inspire me to push the boundaries of sonic exploration and create more immersive and mind-bending experiences on the dancefloor.

Caribou – Sun

The warm, textured sound and intricate rhythmic patterns of Caribou’s ‘Sun’ demonstrate how electronic music can be both sophisticated and deeply groovy. Rone – Ouija

His textural approach and melodic sensibility inspire me to experiment with unconventional sound sources and create tracks that transport the listener to another realm, much like some of Laurent Garnier’s more atmospheric journeys.
