THE summer yielded such an incredible amount of amazing electronic music for our ears and Robert Babicz’s new long player, Light Of The Universe, on Carl Cox and Christopher Coe’s Awesome Soundwave label, is one of the season’s gems.

The album is a wonderful collection of tracks from the mastermind of electronic diversity. Light Of The Universe accompanied me on a trip to Ibiza earlier in the summer and will now always remain sun-kissed in my ears, delivering blissed out breaks, beaming house, shining techno, blinding acid and everything in between as Robert continues to push boundaries with not just this album but the myriad of releases the prolific producer blesses us with on a regular basis.

We caught up with him this week and he’s put together a playlist of music for us that’s influenced his journey with Light Of The Universe. Listen below and read what he had to say about the music.

Eprom, G Jones – On My Mind

“I love almost all the stuff from Eprom; for me, it is like ACID 2.0. was a big inspiration for me, even though I am not so wild yet.”

Rival Consoles – Pulse of Information

“His sound design gave me many ideas. i like when you stay simple but make it organic. This creates depth.”

Jan Jelinek – Rock in the Video Age

“I love any form of dub sounds. Very influential in my work.”

F.U.S.E. – Substance Abuse

“For me, it is still a blueprint when it comes to acid-influenced techno. Richie Hawtin at his best.”

Robert Babicz – Earth Ship

“This was made just before I started the album and gave me a hint where I want to go with the tracks.”

Robert Babicz – Robot Romance

“On the Album, I wanted an electro track, like I did before on the Dirtcut J.”

Wanitwa Mos, Master KG – Dali Nguwe

“This track is a placeholder for Amapiano as a music style, that I really enjoy. This warm and relaxed feeling and the groove are mega nice.”

Robert Babicz – What a Day

“The Voyager track from the Album is referencing this track from 2011. I always loved this soft, relaxing acid house feeling.”

Dub Phizix – Blossom

“Also a placeholder for excellent dry breakbeats that I simply love. So it was time to try my attempt at the album.”

Robert Babicz – We will Never Give Up

“Emotional Dance Music will always get me, if it is hard or soft, as long I can feel it in a good way.”
