I had the pleasure of meeting Colin Hudd one sunny Friday afternoon last month at my local pub, The Cock Horse in Detling, Maidstone, Kent, UK where we shared a few pints with a mutual friend of ours, Paul Oakenfold.

We got talking about music, naturally, and before long I asked Colin if he’d like to record a guest mix for The Night Bazaar Sessions. He agreed and here we are.

Colin’s story as a DJ stretches right back to the early ’70s when his love of Black American funk and soul inspired him to become a mobile DJ, hauling records and gear to gigs where he played nothing but the freshest US imports. His dedication and taste soon earned him residencies at some of the UK’s most iconic clubs of the time, from The Goldmine in Canvey Island to Flicks in Dartford, where he even won the Blues & Soul Club DJ Award.

By the mid-to-late ’80s, Colin was at the forefront of a new musical revolution: house music. He held down a residency at Spectrum alongside Paul Oakenfold, playing to thousands every Monday night and helping to shape a scene that would go on to conquer the world. His energy behind the decks even drew praise from Detroit techno pioneer Derrick May, who once said: “Man, I had never seen a white man with such energy… No Lie!”

Colin’s journey has taken him from London’s most legendary dancefloors to global stages, touring with U2, producing under aliases like Manic MCs and Audio Deluxe, remixing names like PP Arnold and Billy Idol, and opening the iconic Velvet Underground at Zouk in Singapore. Along the way he’s played everywhere from The Palladium in New York to Pacha Ibiza and even a packed Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

Today, Colin continues to DJ with the same passion, selecting gigs that truly inspire him while producing fresh music that draws on his rich tapestry of influences. His love affair with dance music, as he says himself, goes on.
