It’s this bond, formed through countless nights, sunrise finales and a loyal community that treats his music like a shared spiritual language, that forms the foundation of Global Underground’s newest chapter: GU48: Córdoba.
Joining the legendary series is a milestone for any DJ, but for Guy J, the invitation was deeply personal. GU48 arrives as a two-part journey, spanning an evolving club narrative and a reflective downtempo exploration, packed with unreleased material and crafted with the care of someone fully aware of the legacy he’s stepping into.
In this exclusive Q&A, Guy J talks openly about why Córdoba became his muse, the pressure and pride of making a Global Underground mix, the passion of his Argentine fanbase, and how his sound continues to evolve as he reaches new artistic heights.
How did it feel to be invited to deliver GU48: Córdoba and join such an iconic series alongside legends who’ve inspired you?
I was really overwhelmed with it when they reached out to me to make the next GU. to be among names that influenced me and also the electronic music scene means the world. Each name on the GU series is a name that had some impact on the genre they belong.
What made Córdoba the perfect city for your Global Underground mix, both musically and personally?
Córdoba has a special place in my heart and a reflection on my career, going there for years, I’ve developed a deep connection with the city and with Argentina , it became a place that push me to become better in what I do, I always feel before I go that I need to prove myself again and give my best to that amazing crowd.

You’ve said these two mixes are a “homage to the music that made you who you are.” Can you elaborate on how your influences shaped the mood and direction of GU48?
I’ve decided to make 2 different mixes. One is electronic club music which starts deep and builds up which is how I look at a club night, I love a perfect build up it and should be always full on energetic music in my view and I tried to put it in that mix. The other mix is a downtempo mix dedicated to the world music, I tried to make it an emotional mix to reflect the power of music.
Your sets are famously filled with your own productions, edits and remixes. How do you decide what makes the cut for a major project like GU48?
It was hard to chose but I wanted to combine my music with other producers music. There are so many great musicians out there and also musicians that I got to know over the years, so I tried to chose tracks that will make the perfect story.

With both a club mix and a downtempo mix, how did you approach creating two distinct yet connected sonic journeys? When producing or mixing for something as iconic as Global Underground, do you feel more pressure or does it inspire more freedom?
I felt a lot of pressure as this is something that will stay forever as part of a legacy like Global Underground. From time to time I upload mixes and I always try to make them perfect, but I know with these mixes after some time they disappear in sea of mixes. Something like Global Underground stays forever and becomes iconic.
The story of your Córdoba photoshoot, where fans stopped traffic for selfies and autographs is great. What’s your connection with your Argentinian fans like and why do you think your music resonates so strongly there?
I think the Argentinians are a very passionate people and a very emotional people, they feel the music, not just listen to it. I’ve always made music that is most honest to what I feel and I think they get it the most and that’s why Argentina is special .You can see how passionate they are about many things, its not only music and I find it exciting.

Your fans often describe your sets as “spiritual experiences.” What does that kind of devotion mean to you personally?
This is what I tried to deliver, like the GU, when I play in a club and have a long set, I love building it and going through different genres to create a story. Some of the music I make has special meaning for me and I can see how it effects the crowd and what it does to some people, it makes their experience more then a night out at a club and when it happens, its magical.
Do you have a favourite moment or memory from your time in Córdoba while creating this mix?
One of the most special moments was at the end of “We Are Lost” Festival in Córdoba, it finishes a bit after sunrise in an open field and you see this sea of people, there from the first moment till the end showing love for music.
How do you stay inspired and grounded while constantly evolving as an artist?
I’m very grateful for where I am today and that I make a living from my passion and that I got to where I am because I was honest with creation. So I’m confident to keep with it, even during phases that I am not inspired or not feeling connected to what I doing, I know the inspiration will return and it is part of my journey.

When you look back at your journey from your early days to GU48, what do you think has changed the most about your sound and what’s stayed the same?
I evolved a lot as producer, not about getting better. The learning process of making music and also the technical knowledge is endless but with time the boundaries of what I create are being pushed further, this also happened because I get to meet and have more personal relation with producers I admire and meet along the way. It’s beautiful when you finally get to know someone whose music you have played for so long and to discover their personality, it makes you understand their music better and also inspires to be more true to your craft.
Global Underground is a milestone in any DJ’s career. What do you hope GU48: Córdoba will add to your legacy?
I hope it will be something that people will listen in 10, 15, 20 years from now and will take them back to where they were in their life when they listened to it the first time. I still remember the feeling of listening to Deep Dish GU mix and the cover and opening the CD and listening to it, I remember the “times” of when I was listening to it. Really special.
What can we expect next from you after GU48?
I’m planing 2026 at the moment, focusing a bit more on my brand “We Are Lost” – going to do that event in Córdoba with the same team that I’ve been doing it which I’m grateful to work with and also going to Sri Lanka to do We Are Lost. Musicwise I have a remix for Jamie Stevens that is coming out and I’m also making plans for my label “Early Morning” for next year. The ship looks super exciting.
